Perfect Witness - Matt Magee
‘Perfect Witness’ combines two electric stove burners stacked and visually framed by an exterior band of red-orange. Photographed then traced onto mylar and painted in with black acrylic, the print was produced as a photo lithograph. The spiral forms of the stove burners are universal structures recreated throughout history to signify geo-location. Medical researchers have also discovered that human brain signals traveling across the outer layer of neural tissue naturally arrange themselves in swirling spirals. How spirals relate to cognitive processing could significantly enhance our understanding of the dynamics and function of the brain. ‘Perfect Witness’ references both this verisimilitude and truth in presenting the facts as they exist.
